Furniture Resale Feasibility Study
Project type
Market Research & Insights
Date
Spring 2023
In this project, our team explored the feasibility of launching a campus resale program for used dorm furniture—an idea sparked by a group member’s genuine interest in building this initiative. We approached the concept with both qualitative and quantitative research methods to evaluate student interest, pain points, and likelihood of participation.
We designed and distributed a 21-question survey using Qualtrics, then analyzed over 100 student responses using SPSS, conducting t-tests, ANOVAs, regressions, and chi-square analyses to test eight hypotheses related to behavior, gender, convenience, and pricing. Additionally, we facilitated a student focus group to collect more exploratory feedback around the challenges of college move-out, including logistics, waste, and emotional stressors.
Our findings revealed key behavioral insights—including the strong influence of perceived convenience on participation rates and the need to emphasize accessibility over sustainability in messaging. Based on these insights, we developed a full marketing strategy tailored to specific student groups, complete with channel recommendations, incentive structures, and campaign messaging.
This project deepened my experience in survey design, data analysis, and insight-driven marketing strategy. It also gave me hands-on exposure to tools like Qualtrics and SPSS, while helping me understand how to turn raw data into real-world recommendations.
